The Fourth Commandment!
Memory verse: "Remember The Sabbath Day, to keep it Holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:" Exodus 20:8, 9.
As you go through this lesson, write down any questions you may have, I'll try to get you the answers. This may be new to you, ask God to send The Holy Spirit to help you to understand His Word.
1. If we truly love God, what does John say we will do? John 14:15 “If ye ___________ me, ________ my ____________."
2. Is God’s commandments grievous or hard, to keep? 1 John 5:3. "For this is the _____________ of God, that we keep His commandments: and His commandments are not ___________.” (not a burden) Where do we find God’s commandments? They are in Exodus 20:3 - 17. Take time and read them. We are going to look at the fourth commandment. Let’s reread verses 8-11. Notice in verse 1 that the commandments are the words of God not some mans. God says, “Remember The Sabbath Day, to keep it ________." Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work: but the ________ day is The Sabbath of The Lord thy _______: in it thou shalt not do any work...." Verse 11 (Last part) “...Wherefore The Lord __________ the __________ day, and hallowed it."
3. When did God set aside The Seventh Day as The Sabbath? Lets go back to creation and read about the first Sabbath on this earth. Genesis 2:2. "And on The Seventh Day God ended His work which He had made; and He ___________ on the __________ day from all His work which He had made." God created this world in six days and rested The Seventh. Verse 3 says, "And God __________ The Seventh Day, and ____________ it: because that in it He had __________ from all his work which God created and made."
4. Lets look at some of Jesus own words in The New Testament. What did Jesus say The Sabbath was made for? Mark 2:27, 28. "...The ___________ was made for man, and not man for The Sabbath; therefore the son of man is ________ also of The Sabbath."
5. Jesus says man will lay aside His Law for what? Mark 7:7-13. VERSES 7, 8. "Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the ___________ of ________. For laying aside the __________ of ________, ye hold the __________ of _______...."Men will teach the doctrine of men above The Law of God.
6. What day would the preparation day be? Luke 23:54. "And that day was the __________, and The _________ drew on." verse 56. They prepared spices and ointments, “...And ___________ The Sabbath Day according to the ____________.”
7. Luke 24:1. “Now upon the ___________ _________ of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulcher, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them." Verse 2 "And they found the ____________ ____________ away from the sepulcher." Verse 3 "And they entered in, and found not the __________ of The Lord________. "The world keeps Sunday in honor of Christ resurrection (the first day of the week), but we can not find in the Bible, where we have been told to do that. Christ rested in the sepulcher on The Sabbath day. We see in Luke 23:54 that Christ died on the preparation day which was Friday. It got its name preparation day, from where they were taught even back in the wilderness, to use Friday to prepare for The Sabbath, make things ready for The Sabbath. In Luke 23:55 he was laid in the sepulcher on the preparation day. Verse 56 He rested on The Sabbath day, which was the seventh day in the tomb. Luke 24:1-6. The first day of the week, we find, in verse 6, "He is not here, but is ___________...:"
8. Did Jesus come to do away with the Law? Matthew 5:17. “Think not that __ ______ come to ___________ The Law, or the ___________: I am not come to destroy, but to ____________." Jesus did not change The Law.
9. How much of The Law did He say could be changed? Matthew 5:18. "For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, ________ _______ or ________ _________ shall in no wise pass from the ______, till all be _____________." Nothing was to be changed in His law. Not the doting of the letter I; or the crossing of the letter T.
10. When on earth, what was Jesus custom? Luke 4:16. (Last part) "...And, as His __________ was, He went into the __________ on The __________ day, and stood up for to read." We see Jesus went to worship on The Sabbath Day. Jesus gave us an example how to keep The Sabbath.
11. When Jesus was on earth, He said I had kept whose commandments? John 15:10. "If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as ______ have kept _____ _________ commandments, and abide in His love." Jesus was in the Father’s love, through keeping the law of God. We can be in The Father’s love, by keeping The Commandments. We keep them because we love Him, not for works but to show our love for Him. Jesus said in John 14:24 “The words you hear me say are not mine but The Father which sent me. The Law is a mirror, it shows us where we need to correct things in our lives, you may not know when and why The Sabbath was changed. John 14:15 “If ye love me keep my commandments." 1 John 5:3 "For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments." We want to abide in God’s love. We can do this by keeping all of His law.

Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it. 5Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. 6Thou shalt not kill. 7Thou shalt not commit adultery. 8Thou shalt not steal. 9Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. 10Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.’ Exodus 20 1 - 17 |
